Pro-life advocacy.

Maine Right to Life actively engages in legislative advocacy to promote pro-life values. Our organization works closely with state legislators to draft, support, and advance bills that protect the sanctity of life at all stages. Through lobbying efforts, public awareness campaigns, and grassroots mobilization, we encourage citizens to voice their support for pro-life legislation.

We also monitor legislative developments to oppose measures that could expand access to abortion or legalize practices like assisted suicide. By providing expert testimony and educating policymakers, the organization seeks to influence state laws to align with its mission of preserving and defending human life.

🗳 Maine Legislative Update

In the 132nd Maine Legislature, we followed many bills. As the session closed, a few we had concerns for remained and were moved (carried over) to the 2026 second session. Our concerns come from the titles only as the sponsors have hidden their intent to this point.

MRTL is following “Life” Legislation, currently these are on our horizon:

2025 Carry Over Bills of Concern

LD 335

Rep. Kuhn

An Act to Safeguard Reproductive Rights     (Concept Draft)

LD 378

Sen. Bailey

An Act to Strengthen the Health Care System in Maine   (Concept Draft)

LD 426

Rep. Kuhn

An Act to Protect the Human Rights of Individuals in the State Concept Draft)

  LD 1119

Rep. Moonen

An Act Regarding Reproductive Health Care  (Concept Draft)

LD 1418

Sen. Nangle

An Act to Protect Access to Reproductive Health Care, Including Fertility Treatments and Contraceptives

Proposed 2026 Bills of Concern
Of 258 proposed bills, 82 will move forward to be worked in 2026, second session. We found this bill to be worthy of watching.

LR 2906

Sen. Bailey

An Act Regarding Mail Order Delivery of Prescription Drugs (Concept Draft)

Sadly, 5 of these 6 bills are “Concept Drafts” which mean they are not telling the public what the intent of that bill is. LD 1418 seeks to prohibit the Commissioner of DHHS from adopting rules that ban or restrict access to reproductive health care. As I read that, it would mean that as we are seeing studies showing the abortion pill harms as much as 15% of the women who use it, Maine’s Commissioner of DHHS would stand aside on safety and not protect women?
